Do you listen to God’s whispers even when they make no human sense? I argued with God, “Lord, not me - surely you have someone else in mind.”

Do you listen to God’s whispers even when they make no human sense? This week marks the first anniversary of “Embracing the Unexpected.” This blog started with whispers from God, many years ago, “Maree I want you to write and tell our stories.

I knew God was teaching me how to embrace life in the midst of the unexpected, but I wasn’t so sure sharing it would be a wise move.

I argued with God because it just made no sense. “Lord, not me – surely you have someone else in mind.” But then again, the last ten years had made no sense.

He had taken the little girl who wouldn’t raise her hand in class to the front of crowds to speak and advocate for those with a loved one with mental illness.

And when my knees knocked together with fear, God was right there with me.

So why would it be any different with writing?

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV

Have you ever noticed God is relentless? He didn’t seem to like my reasons for why it was an impossible endeavor. So last year, I decided to be obedient to God’s calling, on my heart, regardless of the doubts, insecurities, and excuses. Together with God, I committed to writing once a week for one solid year. I DID IT!!!!

Will God ask us to do something when we aren’t qualified?

Absolutely! However, he will be the one who qualifies and equips us for the job. Our part is to be willing and obedient to his calling.

Will he bless us when we are obedient?

You bet! He has brought people into my life to help me along the way, and he will do the same for you. He has blessed me with some special people willing to read, edit, and encourage me.

I still remember the feeling I got when I first pushed the button, “Publish,” and my writing when out into the world. Feelings that said, “What in the world have I done?”

Then God gave me, “You!” He gave me a community of people willing to embrace life right where we are. Thank you for reading my posts and encouraging me over this last year. It has been a fantastic year filled with new friends and tremendous blessings.

  1. Happy Anniversary Maree!
Isn’t it exciting to reflect on all that God has done in a year? I’m eternally grateful for the changes He has brought to my life and can’t wait to see what the future holds. I can totally relate to everything you’ve written : )

  2. I remember feeling the same way when I started my blog. I’m SO VERY thankful that God equips me for the call he’s laid upon my heart. Congratulations on your one-year blog anniversary.

  3. I can relate to so much of what you shared, Maree Dee. I went through several months when every time I turned around there seemed to be a blog post in front of me encouraging people to start blogging, or someone mentioned blogging during a conversation. These were definitely God whispers, and He wasn’t going to stop until I obeyed and started my own blog! The blog is almost two months old now, and it is proving to be such a great experience of learning, growing, and making new connections with other people.
Congratulations for making it through a full year. I know you’ve touched many lives!

    1. Diane – Congrats for starting your blog, I can’t wait to check it out. I am so glad you have found it to be a great experience. Thank you for stopping by and leaving me a message. Maree

  4. I love hearing how people have listened to a call God has given them. I have a very similar story to how I started and in those low moments when I feel like I’m not qualified to do this or I don’t have anything worth sharing He is right there with me whispering to my heart. Thank you for sharing your story!

  5. Maree, I thank you for sharing about stepping out and the courage it has taken. There is surely blessing which comes from praying and obeying the Lord as He leads. You have encouraged me today!

    1. Joanne – Thank you for stopping and leaving such a nice comment. I agree blessings do come when we obey God. May you have a blessed week, Maree

  6. Beautiful words Maree. I’ve learned to “pray and obey!” As you shared, it’s not always easy to step out and share. However, He will never leave us or forsake us! I look forward to reading more about your journey. Thank you for sharing your heart.

  7. Congratulations on your blog anniversary! I’ve enjoyed reading your posts and I’m glad you took the step of faith to share your writing. I’ve been blogging for almost 2 years now and I remember how scary it was to press publish that first time and how inadequate I felt. I’m glad I did though- I’ve learned so much and been encouraged by the blogging community.

  8. Congratulations, Maree Dee! It’s an exciting adventure to connect with women who are like-minded, and heart similar. I began blogging to build a platform for my first book three years ago. Somewhere along the way, it took on a life of its own. Isn’t it amazing how when we give of ourselves, God keeps replenishing us? Enjoy your time of replenishing and refreshment next week.

    1. Alice, Yes, it is amazing how when we give – God replenishes us. Congrats to you, on three years of blogging, what an accomplishment.

  9. Congratulations on your one year! I’m so proud of you. Your writing is powerful in so many ways. Thank you for being obedient to God, and blessing us with your gift. Love you!

    1. Lisa,

Yes, he is. Thank goodness. Right, when I thought I had convinced myself it just wasn’t for me he would send people out of now where that would say, “Hey you should write.”

Thank you for stopping by and your kind words.

      Maree

    1. Sonya,

Thank you so much for leaving me a message. It is words like yours that keep me going.

    1. Bette,

Music to my ears.! I am so glad I have been able to bless you. It seems so strange to think I bless others because I have been so blessed by being obedient. I have grown and learned more than I ever wanted to this last year about myself. Thank you for being such a loyal reader and I love it when you comment. Maree
