Do you ever find yourself caught up in the fast pace of life, taking shallow breaths and barely keeping up? You never pause long enough to breathe deeply and fill your lungs, heart, and soul. You long to slow down, pause, breathe, and listen—with Jesus, others, and even your heart. But the day starts fast and keeps a rapid pace.
What if there were a way to bring you back to God’s peace in the middle of life’s chaos? These 12 powerful verses offer strength and guidance to help you slow down.
Slowing down may seem impossible in the midst of your busy life. You might even think it makes you weak or less than by not staying on the fast track. As someone who struggles to halt, I’ve discovered a simple pause makes life richer and relationships stronger. It doesn’t have to be a lengthy escape to make a difference.
By allowing our minds to rest, we can enter the present moment and God’s presence. Each verse offers a unique insight and reminder to help you pause and find peace. My personal favorite is the first one, and I would love to hear yours in the comments. Let’s take a moment to slow down.
Pause with God
Slowing down with God isn’t adding more to our plate, but remembering who we belong to. These verses will quiet the soul and draw us closer to Him.
We don’t need a weekend getaway to slow down. Sometimes, all it takes is a pause with God. Here are verses to help you breathe deeply today. #verses #mareedee #pause Share on XVerse 1
“I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.”
(Proverbs 8:17 NIV)
There is nothing more powerful than sitting in God’s love and wisdom. This verse reassures us that when we seek God, we will find Him. And if you read Proverbs 8:35 NLT, it sums it up nicely. “For whoever finds me finds life.”
Verse 2
“This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit.”
(I John 4:13 NIV)
Does God ever feel distant? You pray, and yet you don’t feel His presence. You are not alone. I’ve felt that silence, too. Yet, here, John reminds us of a beautiful truth: as believers, we have the gift of the Holy Spirit, who lives inside of us even when we can’t feel Him.
Verse 3
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
(Isaiah 40:31 NIV)
God doesn’t expect us to be strong on our own. When we’re weak, He carries us. His strength becomes our breath when we’re out of breath.
Verse 4
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13 NIV)
Like the people of Judah held in captivity, God has a plan. No matter what your circumstances, the Lord has not forgotten us.

In “How to Find God’s Presence in a Busy Life,” we explore the cost of busyness in our relationship with Jesus.
Pause to Enhance Our Relationships
Some of the most challenging moments in relationships happen when we speak or act without slowing down. These verses remind us how powerful it is to pause, breathe, and listen so we can love well, especially when it’s hard.
Verse 5
“Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”
(James 1:19 NIV)
A reflective pause before speaking can protect our relationships.
Verse 6
“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” (Proverbs 15:1 NIV)
When we stop to consider our words, we can respond gently. Keep in mind that gentle doesn’t mean passive—it means thoughtful.
Verse 7
“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”
(Colossians 4:6 NIV)
Breathe before you speak, especially when the stakes are high, like when you’re tired, triggered, or sharing Jesus.. Grace can make all the difference.

Sometimes, the hardest place to pause is in our everyday routine—when the calendar is full and expectations keep piling up. But even in the rush, God offers us pockets of peace. These verses serve as gentle reminders that slowing down isn’t lazy—it’s holy. Let the scripture guide you to step back, breathe deeply, and make space for what matters most.
Verse 8
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.”
(Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV)
We live in a world that screams “now.” I’ve fallen for it too. But Solomon’s wise words remind us that life unfolds in seasons. God’s pace is often slower, but His timing is always perfect.
Verse 9
“…Be still, and know that I am God…”
(Psalm 46:10 NIV)
Stillness is where we meet God’s strength and love. We notice His beauty all around us. Maybe, like me, stillness isn’t your default, but it’s worth practicing.
Verse10
Jesus said, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
(Mark 6:31 NIV)
Even Jesus told his disciples to step away to rest. If the Son of God made space for rest, shouldn’t we?
Verse 11
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
(Matthew 11:28-30 NIV)
Have you ever thought that busyness might be a burden worth laying down? Jesus doesn’t just suggest rest—He invites us into it. His yoke is light. His rest is soul-giving.
Verse 12
“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” (Proverbs 16:9 NIV)
Slowing down gives us space to hear God; to sense when He’s redirecting or guiding our path. Without pause, we miss His quiet leading.
