Do you love a new year and how it ushers in unknown potential? Sometimes it is so exciting to leave the past behind and forge forward. Usually, a fresh start is so appealing to me. However, the start to 2022 felt a lot like the previous one, and it’s left me finding it hard to move forward with a renewed zeal for life. Yet, I want to make the new year purposeful? How about you?

Four Ways to Help Make the New Year Purposeful

1. Ponder the Past

Looking back at the previous year and taking inventory will be helpful. What did we do well? Where did life kick us down?

2. Set a Spiritual Goal

Healthy goals are great, although starting with a spiritual one is paramount in a Christian’s life. Becoming more Christ-like is a lifetime process, and by taking small steps, we will move in that direction.

3. Accept Reality

It may feel counterintuitive to accept reality. However, when we refuse to recognize life as it is, it can keep us stuck from moving forward and living God’s purpose for our lives.

4. Contemplate With God

Consider what God has in mind for your purpose this yearAfter all, isn’t His will what we ultimately desire?

What helps you move forward with the desire to make the new year purposeful?

  1. It is our heart’s desire to become more Christ-like, Maree Dee. I appreciate your encouragement, “Becoming more Christ-like is a lifetime process, and by taking small steps, we will move in that direction.”

    1. Lynn, You are so welcome. I can’t tell you how often I am stuck wishing things were different, but once I accept, I can start taking steps that help bring about change. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Maree

    1. I agree with God’s help; we can change our perspective. Thank you for adding to the conversation. I hope you have a fantastic week. Blessings, Maree

  2. Love the tips. I’m happy to let 2021 go because so much of it did “kick me down.” Accepting reality was a big breakthrough at the end of 2021 and that is what I took with me into 2022, still working hare to leave the rest behind. I’m excited about what God has planned for 2022.

  3. Thank you, Maree for featuring my post here! I love your four ways of ensuring a purposeful new year, especially, “Accept Reality”. Sometimes that’s the hardest thing for me to do!

    1. Donna, accepting reality is hard for me too, and I find myself wishing hard as if I change reality with my wishes all too often. I loved your post, and it was an honor to feature you this week. I hope your weekend has been restful. Blessings, Maree

  4. These are good steps in transitioning from the old year to the new. I probably should spend more time contemplating the new year, but I tend to think that if I am in God’s Word every day, seeking to walk with Him, then I avoid having to make major course corrections. Still, it’s good, as Donna said, to stop and look at the big picture and consider our ways. I especially liked her outward focus in a couple of questions–seeking whom to encourage and whose lives to invest in.

    1. Barbara, Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I always look forward to hearing your input. I, too, love the way Donna prompted us to look outside of ourselves. I hope you have had a fantastic weekend. Maree
