Have you ever noticed how joy can sneak up on you in the most ordinary moments? Perhaps the sound of a child’s laughter echoing through the house, the warmth of the sun streaming through your window, or the sweet surprise of your grandchild’s outstretched arms reaching for you.
So often, gratitude sparkles quietly, right in front of us. The challenge is to slow down long enough to see beauty in the everyday. #gratitudesparkles #gratitude Share on XWhen we pause and take notice, we begin to realize that gratitude doesn’t always arise from big or extraordinary moments. However, gratitude is born in the sacred moments when we pause to become aware of what is right in front of us.
It’s what I like to call “Gratitude that Sparkles.” It’s the shimmer of God’s goodness woven into the seemingly ordinary details of our lives.
Seeing God’s Goodness in the Everyday
“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 (NIV)
For years, I clung to this verse for the big, beautiful moments in life when the event was grand and joyful. To name a few: my wedding day, the births of my children, answered prayers that filled my heart with awe.
But when life began to take unexpected turns—when plans fell apart, prayers seemed unanswered, and waiting felt long—this scripture started to whisper a new meaning.
Gratitude isn’t about finding the perfect moment; it’s about finding God in this one. #gratitude #GodsGoodness Share on XThis day, not yesterday’s joy or tomorrow’s dream, is a sacred invitation to see God’s goodness.
Gratitude is so much more than a feeling—it’s a posture, a way of living that shapes our perspective. We become aware and awake to God’s goodness. It is where we notice what is right and good, not what is missing.
Thankfulness opens your heart to My Presence and your mind to My thoughts. You may still be in the same place, with the same set of circumstances, but it is as if a light has been switched on, enabling you to see from My perspective. It is this Light of My Presence that removes the sting from adversity.
—Sarah Young
When we approach each day with a grateful heart, even the most ordinary moments become holy ground.
Jesus Models Thanksgiving
Jesus modeled gratitude beautifully. He thanked God before the miracles unfolded, such as when he fed thousands of people with a few loaves and fish. (John 6:11) In Luke 10:21, Jesus thanked God for revealing spiritual truths to those who believe. And at the last supper, He gave thanks even in the shadow of the cross. (Matthew 26:26–28)
Gratitude wasn’t Jesus’ reaction to blessing—it was a way of life.
When we follow Jesus’ example, it reminds us that even when the story feels unfinished, God is still at work in the details. We also start to sense God’s nearness in the middle of our everyday routines.
Eucharisteo—thanksgiving—always precedes the miracle.

Peace Through Gratitude
As we begin to notice the gratitude that sparkles around us, a sense of peace begins to settle in. It doesn’t erase our pain or fix every uncertainty, but it does soften the edges of worry and reminds us that we are not alone.
Gratitude steadies our hearts, fills us with peace, and draws us closer to God’s presence.
Peace doesn’t come from everything going right—it grows when our hearts turn toward gratitude. #gratitude #gratefulheart Share on X
Practical Ways to See Beauty in the Everyday
In my last post, “A Grateful Heart Pause: Where Joy and Presence Meet”, we paused long enough to breathe, take notice, and whisper a thank you. Today, we take that pause a step further—allowing gratitude to sparkle through the way we see the everyday.
1. Pause and Look Closer
When we slow down, the beauty around us has a chance to come into focus. The sparkle in someone’s eyes, the crunch of fall leaves under our feet, or the way the sunlight dances as it spills across your coffee table.
“Be still, and know that I am God!” (Psalm 46:10 NLT)
The world won’t stop spinning for us, but we can— long enough to notice God’s fingerprints on the ordinary.
2. Pause and Appreciate the Ordinary
We often chase the mountaintop moments, forgetting God meets us in the everyday paths as well. Gratitude transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary by helping us see God’s goodness, even in the unfinished or uncertain.
The secret is Christ in me, not me in a different set of circumstances!
—Elizabeth Elliot
Then the everyday will begin to sparkle with His goodness.
3. Pause and Share the Sparkle
Gratitude has a unique quality-it expands when shared. A kind word, a handwritten note, or a simple smile extended to a stranger can shine God’s light into someone else’s life. Thankfulness is catching on, as evident every November during our 30-day social media gratitude challenge. One person’s thankfulness sparks another’s joy.
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
(Matthew 5:16 NIV)

Life struggles can easily make one forget about the good things the Lord does for His children. Psalm 100 reminds us to be grateful. I found out that being grateful for the little things attracts more blessings. I pray every Christian learn to exalt the Lord more than worrying and complaining about this and that.
Thank you for your response. I agree—“being grateful for the little things attracts more blessings.” That is a truth I hold onto as the unexpected continues to unfold.

What an inspiring post for developing the habit of gratitude! Had to copy this in my quote journal: “Gratitude isn’t about finding the perfect moment; it’s about finding God in this one.” AMEN to that, Maree! I started a daily gratitude journal in 2017 and am so glad I did. What a delight to think back on the day and record a moment or two that sparkled with God’s goodness. Just the act of reviewing the day for the positives is joy-inducing. But the writing allows perusal at a later date. Than I get to enjoy another delight: reviewing God’s gifts of the past that would otherwise have been forgotten forever.
Ah, Nancy, your words truly brightened my day, especially as I sit here feeling under the weather and missing out on family that is visiting. Yet, even in this moment, I find comfort in hearing their sweet voices echoing through our home. God is so good, and your kind words helped me remember that.
Blessings,
Maree
Thank you for your faithfulness in leading us into gratitude, Maree. This is a true blessing for me!
You are so welcome. I hope our gratitude journey has carried you forward to the next season.
Gratitude is cultivated in the heart through a pause and reflection of His goodness. Even now, I’m glancing out my window and beholding the beauty of a small water fountain surrounded by rosemary and listening to the doves sing. Joining Him in the small moments of gratitude makes all the difference, Maree.
Thank you so much for sharing your lovely experience of looking out your window. It’s a beautiful reminder for us to pause and really take in the world around us. I wholeheartedly agree—those small moments of gratitude truly brighten our days! Warm wishes, Maree
Friday mid-afternoon standing in a not long but grocery filled line clutching my two items to my chest. Both customers before me graciously offered to let me go before them as their items filled the belt to overflowing. Thanking them I replied I had nothing but time as Monday of that week biopsy results revealed a lung tumor. I have worn a ball cap enshrined with “Hooked on Jesus” my fishing for fish or people hat. The female of the lead couple pack shared she would pray for me after thanking her I replied pray for the tumor. At that moment time stopped clutching my items closer to my introvert chest the cashier, couple and young lady all looking my direction. Spirit lead I spoke of the Great Physician suffocating the tumor or if the tumor thinks it won then I would be present in Heaven fishing with Jesus no more pain nor tears or suffering and best of all no more tumors. As time resumed and we all resumed our busy lives the verse about well done good and faithful servant as I gently lowered my items to be counted.
Thank you so much for sharing your story. I’m keeping you in my thoughts, praying that that tumor is either shrunk or miraculously disappears. Please keep me posted so I can continue to pray. I want you to know how much I admire your resilience—you haven’t let this challenge stop you from making a difference in the lives of those around you. Amen. Thankful it hasn’t stopped you from touching the lives around you. Amen. Maree
