How will you ever know God’s plan if you don’t stop to listen? Slowing down to really hear God's voice can be challenging

How will you ever know God’s plan if you don’t stop to listen? Slowing down to really hear God’s voice can be challenging. Over the next week, I will be taking a short break from blogging, featuring posts, and commenting to listen for His voice.

How to Know God’s Plan

Do you take dedicated time to listen to God’s voice? What does that look like in your life?

  1. Response to Maree Dee’s ‘query’ – Do you take dedicated time to listen for God’s voice? What does that look like in your life?

Having just turned 70, I have been through enough to learn that going through life without God is just plain silly. God is my best friend, so, I not only need to, I want to be in relationship with Him daily and, more exactly, multiple times during the day! Your question is asking for a dedicated time and I have to respond that while a dedicated time is handy, I do not feel relationships do best with strictly dedicated times. I can tell you that in the morning I try to do my devotions and pray and usually that works but if I don’t get around to it I certainly will later on in the day. Since God is always with me and never leaves me, that frees me to ‘talk to him constantly’. I am continually praising Him and thanking Him for the beauty in my life; my lovely wife, our home, our pet dogs, and such. I also complain when things don’t go well for me, and I let God know just how I feel (he knows what I’m thinking anyway, so why hide it?). We laugh, we cry, we ponder continually through the day.

I take classes and learn more about, and also reaffirm what I know about God. Classes about God’s grace and how His grace can and should be shared. Classes about being a disciple and the relationships of myself with God, with others, and with myself and classes that talk about the spiritual aspect of living on this planet (something I think we should be looking at and more aware of!).

Small groups also draw me closer to God and I thank Him for support programs such as ‘Circles of Hope’ and the relationships that spring from those programs, they feed me, providing fellowship, accountability, and food (we always seem to have great food when we meet … but I digress). I am a believer in Men’s groups as I feel men need to ‘step up’ in the Christian world and I have been blessed with some great relationships through small groups and large gatherings of men seeking more about this loving God.

I believe a great church is essential and every Sunday we ‘attend’. I put in the quotation marks due to COVID and how that means attending is now online but when we ‘return to normalcy’ we plan on attending every weekend and serving (serving really helps to make me feel closer to my church body and my God).

So, that’s the short of it, and there are other ways of connecting to and hearing God. What do you read, listen to on the car radio, watch on TV?

The last thing I’ll bring up is the ability to ‘take my thoughts captive’ (this could be a course in itself). What I mean is that because of the above I am more able now to handle the accusations, temptations, and deceptions of Satan and this world by simply pausing and asking God, “Did that come from you?”, and because I am getting into His word daily, careful about what I put into my mind, and surrounded by brothers and sisters of great counsel, I can more easily recognize falsehoods from His Truth.

I am God’s child. I am part of His family. He is my father, my Dad, and not a judge. He loves me and wants a relationship with me and, boy, do I crave a relationship with Him! Satan is defeated and only has the power that I am tricked into giving him. The longer, deeper, and better I spend time with God and His Word the stronger I become and thereby am more able to ‘share and shine’ for Him.

In His grip, and say Hi to Mike!

    1. Chuck,
I am so glad you stopped by and shared. I have read through it a few times this week and found such encouragement. It makes me smile learning about your relationship with God.

I am right there with you. He is my best friend. I am so thankful I was introduced to Him as a child. I love the fact that I am never alone. I find a dedicated time in the morning so helpful because it starts my day with my eyes fixed on Him, and then we seem to chat throughout the day. I look forward to it too. We have a special place we meet. However, I had to change it up these last few weeks while we had a puppy visiting. The puppy Wanted to devour God’s word. I mean literally. I had to protect my beautiful new study guide and Bible.

I am so glad we met at Circles, and thank you for being such a great example of what a Godly man looks like today.

      Blessings, Maree
