Are you smack dab in the middle of a battle or trial? If not, it is pretty much a guarantee you will be at some point. So, spending a bit of time pondering how you will fight your battle is crucial. There are specific tactics we should never do in a struggle, and yet many of us fall into this trap over and over again. Find out if you do.

Our featured article today is from Diane Ferreira who writes at Worth Beyond Rubies. Her post hits it spot on as she takes us through one of my favorite stories in the Bible about David and Goliath. Don’t you love that a mere shepherd boy could take down the Giant with only a small stone? It is empowering to know with God anything is possible.

David reminds us –

When stepping out beyond my comfort zone or fiercely fighting a battle, I think of David. His story gives me the courage to attempt the impossible and points me straight to God – our source of strength.

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26

Many times while standing before a door which leads to conflict or battle,  I visualize putting on God’s armor, piece by piece.

However, when I think the battle isn’t that tough or quite frankly busyness has taken over, I sometimes rush for a solution and skip the armor of God altogether. Anybody else like me?

Instead of our Lord, I  head straight to a friend for advice or yes, even the Internet. Many times I try to emulate what worked for someone else only to fall flat on my face. Now, I do believe in seeking wise counsel and even trying other approaches; however, we must start with the armor of God.

Are you in the habit of heading to a friend first for advice instead of first seeking God’s wisdom?

As I read Diane’s post, it became apparent my focus on the story of David and Goliath had always been on the win of the story, which was tremendous. However, there is so much more to the story. Don’t miss the vital lesson Diane has for us in her featured post. Ponder with me whose armor are you wearing in the battles of life?

“Saul’s armor would not work for David because it was too big. It was not meant for David, it was meant for Saul. David tried to make it work but you cannot force someone else’s solution to fit your problem!” Diane Ferreira

Sadly, too many times we step out in battle in someone else's armor, and it doesn't fit. Therefore, we will not be adequately equipped for the fight before us. Click To Tweet

    1. You are so welcome. I too loved her take on David and Goliath. It has me thinking all week. Maree

  1. That is such a great point! The solution for others isn’t necessarily our solution! It is crucial to always seek the Lord first and out on His armor! It is a perfect fit!

    Blessings, Jo

  2. When I read the title of your post today, my mind went immediately to Diane’s post from last week. So glad you are sharing it here. It was so relevant!

  3. I love your application here, Maree. I had not thought of seeking a friend’s advice or a book or a Google search as trying on someone else’s armor, but it’s true. Not that what they say isn’t sometimes helpful, but it’s most helpful if it points us directly back to God. How we need to read and apply God’s Word directly and personally.

    1. Barbara, I agree many times our friends have great advice or suggestions and many times it is even inspired from God. However, we must start with God. Blessings, Maree
