Sometimes uncovering what is underneath the strain can make a difference. Have you ever considered it might be the fear of making a mistake which is holding you back?

“Nothing will stop you being creative more effectively as the fear of making a mistake.”

― John Cleese

We would love to know – do you struggle to be creative? Is it fear or something else? Or do you freely create?

This week, I  will be taking a short break to allow time to find my creative side and work on a project which is dear to my heart. You probably won’t even notice I am gone. However, a few minor things will change.

We will not have a highlighted article today on “Embracing the Unexpected” today.  However, next Friday, we will be back featuring a post on Embracing the Unexpected. I am looking forward to reconnecting with all of you and reading your posts over the next week. Don’t forget to visit the other hosts and see what fantastic posts they have chosen to highlight.

  1. My biggest struggle with creativity was realizing it’s not always directly related to art. Then the struggle was time. Realizing that we’re creative because God made us in His image helped me give myself permission to dabble in creative endeavors.

I used to coordinate a ladies group in a former church where we used to live, and one of my favorite things was a combined prayer/brainstorming session for future ladies’ meetings and the annual ladies’ luncheon. It was so neat to see God bring themes, speakers, favors, etc. together.

    1. Barbara, Exactly the same thing I did. I have it so ingrained in my head that creativity is art. I have to keep telling myself I am creative in other ways. I love the example you gave. But you are so right it takes time. Thank you for adding to the conversation.

  2. Love that John Cleese quote. Perfectionism is definitely a killer of creativity. 🙁 Hope you’re enjoying your break and finding your creativity afresh!

    1. Oh, Lisa, I am. Right now, I am attending the “Speak Up Conference, and it has been fantastic. Blessings, Maree

  3. I admire you for prioritising time for working on a creative project, and making the choice to let some other things go for a season.. That’s what stops me! I feel obligated to keep all the usualy balls in the air and I don’t have time left over. You’ve inspired me!

    1. Christine – I had to laugh to chuckle a bit as I read your words. You made me sound so good. I too struggle with keeping the usually balls up. It seems I do so many things out of obligation, which doesn’t even make sense. So as strange as it may sound, you have inspired me back to keep prioritizing. Thank you! It felt good to do that this week. Blessings, Maree

    1. Yes, it is a great quote. I hope you are not letting perfectionism get in your way. Maree

    1. Thank you! I am looking forward to wrapping up this part of it and getting back. Maree
