Do you ever wonder where God is when you are hurting? You wouldn’t be alone if you did. Many people find it hard to feel his presence while in pain.

The other day I found myself in the middle of a “WHY GOD” encounter with our Lord. I grumbled and growled a bit venting my frustration to Him. With each stomp I let God know exactly how I felt. “Lord, another struggle?” “You have to be kidding!”  “Can’t I get a break?”

I finished up my little outburst which helped me align with God. Then I prayed, “Lord, I don’t understand the additional pain you are allowing, but I TRUST YOU!” “You must have a reason.”

I flew out the door with a skip in my step knowing he was in control. As I rounded the corner, I glanced across the street where the sprinklers were on. Guess what I saw?  A beautiful rainbow! It prompted me of God’s promises and the truth he was near. It was as if he had winked to say, “God’s Got This!”

A short prayer I often pray when I am hurting,

Do you ever wonder where God is when you are hurting? You wouldn’t be alone if you did.  Many people find it hard to feel his presence while in pain.

The very next day, I came across a beautiful post from Susan McIlmoil, and I knew I wanted to share it with all of you. Though our pain may be different, we all have a desire to know God is near.

Please welcome Susan who has a website “Carry on my Heart” where she shares about choosing faith over fear in the everyday.

  1. The perfect, little prayer that works all the time! God usually responds to me with something beautiful from nature–a sunrise, light glinting off a raindrop on a leaf, a frost flower, or a hummingbird.

    1. Anita – Me too! I see him all around. Now I know God is always near, but when he reveals himself, it helps so much. Most likely it isn’t the prayer but my focus that changes when I pray it. Thank you for sharing where you see God.

    1. Lisa, I am right there with you. It brings me such comfort when I am aware of this presence. Blessings, Maree

  2. I love the simple prayer you pray. Instead of pretending I know what God needs to do to eliminate my suffering, a simple prayer of faith in Him might be much more beneficial. laurensparks.net

    1. I am so glad you like my simple prayer. It is one I pray often. I know God is near, but I loved it when HE reveals himself. I think it helps me be more aware of his presence. Blessings, Maree

  3. Thank you for pointing us to a new writer, Susan, today. Her words reminded me of how God is always present even in our hurting. It sounds like you had a hard week yourself but still found God when you least expected. Blessings, MareeDee!

    1. Mary, I am so glad you enjoyed Susan’s words. I love being reminded God is always with us. It has been a hard week, but knowing God never leaves me brings me so much comfort. Thank you for your thoughtful comment. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Blessings, Maree
